Dr. Thalia Young

Dr. Thalia Young has been serving the Golden Isles as a veterinarian for the past year. They completed their undergraduate degree in biology at the University of West Georgia before attending veterinary school at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland.

Prior to school, they spent most of their childhood and teenage years volunteering at a rehabilitation and nature center where they eventually took over as head of resident animal care and training. During their undergrad, Dr. Young spent three years with DNR researching wild carnivores across Alabama, furthering their understanding of ecology and native wildlife behavior.

While in vet school, they began working with a wildlife rehabilitation center and animal rescue in the Florida panhandle, providing care for native wildlife as well as abandoned or neglected pets of all shapes and sizes. They completed multiple specialty externships in exotics and wildlife medicine, as well as Ophthalmology and anesthesia.

Outside of the clinic, Dr. Young lives with their partner, Julia, their cat (Zoya) and two snakes (Fortune and Orpheus). They are an avid reader, frequent hiker, and they have recently picked up crochet.

Dr. Young is incredibly excited to be working with Island Animal Hospital, and they cannot wait to meet your furry, scaly, and feathery friends!
